Through the process of capacity building, Nirman Foundation endeavours to obtain, improve and retain the knowledge, skills and other resources of the target population focusing on enhancing their ability towards improvement of quality of life.

Training on WASH in Schools

WASH in schools (WinS) programme is fundamental to the provision of quality and student centric care. Through this programme, an enabling environment has been created for young children and adolescents with a major initiative to improve global health since 2018. Our organisation has set up infrastructure and imparted knowledge in selected schools to make them WASH friendly.

WASH in School Training Programme

Funding Partner: ROTARY Club, Belur & Partners
Project Area: Hooghly and Howrah Districts
Project Duration: 2020-2021

Intervention has been made across 8 schools, reaching out to 1132 students. The project started with pre testing of knowledge of these students and after identification of gaps, training session was conducted in 25 batches. Various posters were created through group work and effective monitoring tools were created. The WASH programme has created a group of peer educators and follow up sessions have been conducted to ensure the learnings are carried on and sustained in the school.

Menstrual Health and Hygiene Management

Menstrual health and hygiene management (MHHM) has been a target intervention area of Nirman Foundation and we have worked to develop and upgrade the infrastructure at schools and develop knowledge of adolescent students, teachers and caregivers.

Implementation of Menstrual Hygiene Management Programme

Project Duration:
2019-2020

The programme reached out to 926 girls and 390 boys intervening across 8 schools, educating and training them on menstrual health and hygiene, to help discard myths and superstitions and normalize healthy dialogue around menstruation.

Promotion on Menstrual Hygiene Management in South 24 Parganas

Project Area: South 24 Parganas
Project duration: 2018-2019

In collaboration with District Administration, West Bengal this project implemented MHM programme in 50 selected schools across 2 blocks in Falta and Canning-I in the district of South 24 Parganas. The project was carried out targeting the social and behavioural changes among adolescent, caregivers and teachers and at the community level through advocacy with the administration.

Promotion of MHM Programme

We implemented a holistic intervention programme on MHM through installation of sanitary pad vending machines and incinerators along with conducting awareness programmes addressing puberty issues, MHM and general sanitation in 14 schools in 3 districts. This project has put an effort to eradicate myths and taboos regarding menstruation.

MHHM Programme was implemented among the adolescent girls of 50 selected schools in Purulia district reaching out to 7684 students. The crux of the project was to address issues on MHM in scientific manner to disseminate knowledge and best practices for uses and disposal of menstrual items. The project aims at eliminating age-old challenges to usher best practices among them.
